Solving the Problem of SJW Corporations • Pellowe Talk Live
Qantas had an undeniably strong influence on the marriage debate and then in sacking Israel Folau. Is it a problem that big corporations are interfering in social debates? Are SJW (social justice warrior) corporations likely to increase their meddling? If it’s a problem, what’s the solution?
Dr Jeremy Sammut is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Independent Studies, and has just published a quick read called, “Corporate Virtue Signalling – How to Stop Big Business From Meddling in Politics“. He joins Dave Pellowe on the set of Pellowe Talk for a conversation about these questions and more in front of a live audience.
In his book, Jeremy Sammut shows why the support of big business in the marriage debate could be just the beginning of corporate meddling in politically-contentious issues to come. Companies will become political players campaigning for ‘progressive’ social, environmental, and economic causes if activists operating inside Australian businesses get their way.
The notion that corporations need a ‘social license to operate’ threatens to give business leaders a license to play politics on company time — and with shareholders’ money. To ensure the business of business remains business and not politics, it is not enough simply to complain about the takeover of business by ‘corporate lefties’.
